ObjectivesTo assess the methodological quality of clinical practice guidelines of cervical cancer in China published from 2014 to 2018.MethodsCNKI, WanFang Data, CBM, VIP, Medlive.cn, the National Guideline Clearinghouse, PubMed, The Cochrane Library and EMbase were searched for cervical cancer clinical practice guidelines published in China from January 1st, 2014 to December 31st, 2018. Four reviewers searched and selected the literature independently according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessed the methodological quality of the included guidelines by using AGREE Ⅱ.ResultsA total of 9 guidelines were included. The average score for each area was: scope and purpose 75.47%, stakeholders’ involvement 35.09%, the rigor of development 43.70%, clarity of presentation 87.74%, applicability 80.76%, and editorial independence 0%.ConclusionsThe quality of cervical cancer clinical practice guidelines in China requires further improvement.
Objective To assess the methodological quality of pediatric COVID-19 guidelines using the AGREE Ⅱ. Methods Domestic and foreign pediatric COVID-19 guidelines from inception to 1st Oct 2021 were electronically searched in PubMed, CBM, CNKI, VIP, WanFang Data, Medlive, NGC, GIN, and NICE databases and relevant websites. Two researchers independently assessed the methodological quality of the guidelines by using AGREE Ⅱ. Results A total of 21 guidelines were included. The AGREE Ⅱ results revealed that the average scores of included guidelines in 6 domains (scope and purpose, stakeholder involvement, rigor of development, clarity of presentation, applicability, and editorial independence) were 62.70%, 36.24%, 20.34%, 50.42%, 22.12% and 53.17%, respectively. ConclusionThe methodological quality of pediatric COVID-19 guidelines is poor. Guideline developers should follow the requirements of AGREE Ⅱ in guideline development.
ObjectiveTo assess the methodological quality of guidelines for bronchoscopic alveolar lavage. MethodsCNKI, VIP, WanFang Data, CBM, Web of Science, PubMed, EMbase databases and medlive.cn, the National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC), the National Guideline International Network (GIN), the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN), the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), and the World Health Organization (WHO) websites were electronically searched to collect guidelines of bronchoscopic alveolar lavage from inception to December 2020. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data, and assessed the methodological quality of the guidelines by using AGREE Ⅱ tool. ResultsA total of 19 guidelines were included, with 5 from China, 5 from the USA, 3 from Europe, 2 from the UK, 1 from Australia, 1 from Israel, 1 from Spain, and 1 from India. The average standard score rates of the 19 guidelines in the six fields were 50.73% for scope and purpose, 20.02% for participants, 15.13% for formulation rigor, 36.40% for clarity of presentation, 3.51% for applicability, and 22.37% for editorial independence.ConclusionsThe quality of bronchoalveolar lavage guidelines remains relatively low.
ObjectiveTo evaluate the quality of the clinical practice guidelines of acupuncture in China, in order to identify the status quo and challenges in the development of guidelines. MethodsWe evaluated the quality of the 5 clinical practice guidelines of acupuncture in China through the guideline appraisal instrument "Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation Ⅱ" (AGREE Ⅱ). Four appraisers rated 6 domains of each guideline independently. ResultsFrom the assessment with AGREE Ⅱ, the mean scores of the six domains were as follows: "scope and purpose"55%, "stakeholder involvement" 27%, "rigor of development" 4%, "clarity of presentation" 55%, "applicability" 4%, and "editorial independence" 1%. ConclusionThe quantity of acupuncture guidelines is small and their quality is low due to the lack of methodological issues.
ObjectivesTo assess the methodological quality of Chinese clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for diagnosis and management of atrial fibrillation, and to provide methodological advice for developing and updating CPGs for atrial fibrillation in future. MethodsCBM, CNKI, WanFang Data and VIP databases were electronically searched to collect filter relevant CPGs from inception to Feburary, 2018. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and evaluated the quality of eligible CPGs by using the appraisal of guidelines for research and evaluation (AGREE Ⅱ) instrument. ResultsA total of 10 CPGs were included. The standardized mean scores for AGREE Ⅱ were: 54.17% for scope and purpose, 18.89% for stakeholder involvement, 15.89% for rigor of development, 66.39% for clarity and presentation, 34.9% for applicability, and 0 for editorial independence. ConclusionsThe quality of Chinese CPGs for atrial fibrillation is low. More efforts should be made to enhance the quality of CPGs for atrial fibrillation using methodological rigorous frameworks and strengthen guideline reporting.
Objective To evaluate the methodological quality and reporting quality of clinical guidelines and consensus on central venous catheters. Methods The PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, CBM, WanFang Data, CNKI databases and Guidelines International Network, National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, National Guideline Clearinghouse, Medive.cn websites were searched to collect clinical guidelines and consensus related to central venous catheters. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to October 2022. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and used evaluation tools AGREE Ⅱ and RIGHT to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Results A total of 34 central venous catheter guidelines and consensus were included. The average score for each field of AGREE II was 53.73% for scope and purpose, 39.26% for participants, 39.57% for rigor, 46.76% for clarity, 30.23% for application and 49.18% for editorial independence. Items 1a, 1b, 3, and 4 (100.00%) had the highest reporting rate in the RIGHT evaluation items, followed by items 19a (97.05%), 2/19b (94.11%), 20 (91.17%), 7b/11a (88.23%), and 7a (85.29%). The reporting rate of the remaining items was below 60%. Subgroup analysis results showed that the average score and RIGHT score of the guidance class in the four fields of AGREE Ⅱ (rigor, clarity, application and editorial independence) were higher than those of the consensus class. Guidelines and consensus formulated based on evidence-based medicine methods were higher than those formulated based on expert opinions or reviews in the three fields of AGREE II (rigor, application and editorial independence). The average scores of foreign guidelines and consensus in 6 fields and RIGHT scores of AGREE Ⅱ were higher than those of domestic guidelines and consensus. Conclusion The AGREE Ⅱ of 6 fields average score and RIGHT score in foreign guidelines are higher than those in domestic guidelines.
ObjectiveTo analyze the current status of children's clinical practice guidelines from 2010 to 2021, and to evaluate the quality of evidence-based guidelines for children. MethodsPubMed, EMbase, CNKI, WanFang Data, and VIP databases and relevant domestic and foreign guideline websites were searched to collect Chinese pediatric clinical guidelines from January 1st 2010 to September 13th 2021. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data; 4 reviewers used AGREE Ⅱ to evaluate the quality of the included evidence-based guidelines. ResultsA total of 164 guidelines were included, which involved 65 evidence-based guidelines and 99 non-evidence-based guidelines, 113 western medicine guidelines and 51 traditional Chinese medicine guidelines. The majority of the diseases with high hospitalization burden were covered by those guidelines, including 35 guidelines for respiratory diseases, ranking first among all diseases. However, there was no guideline for pediatric cardiovascular disease in China. The average scores for 65 evidence-based guidelines in 6 individual domains were 65.2%, 49.6%, 59.3%, 68.5%, 23.9% and 83.6%. ConclusionsThe scores for applicability, stakeholder involvement, and rigor of development are low for Chinese guideline for children. There is a lack of pediatric clinical guidelines for circulatory disorders.
ObjectivesTo assess the methodological quality of Chinese clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for respiratory diseases published in 2017, so as to provide evidence for developing and updating CPGs of this field in the future.MethodsWanFang Data, CNKI, VIP, CBM databases, Medlive and other related websites were electronically searched to collect Chinese CPGs for respiratory diseases published from January 2017 to December 2017. Four reviewers independently evaluated the quality of eligible guidelines by using Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation Ⅱ (AGREE Ⅱ) instrument.ResultsA total of 37 guidelines were included. The mean scores of the six AGREE Ⅱ domains (scope and purpose, stakeholder involvement, rigor of development, clarity and presentation, applicability, editorial independence) were 59.3%, 25.1%, 10.8%, 59.1%, 25.8%, and 7.3%, respectively. Only 1 guideline (2.7%) was recommended for clinical use, and 2 guidelines (5.4%) were recommended with modification.ConclusionsThe CPGs for respiratory diseases published in China in 2017 have higher quality than CPGs published prior to 2017, however great discrepancies exist when comparing with international guidelines of average level. More attention should be paid on the rigorousness of methodology and the practicality of content in the future development of CPGs.
ObjectiveTo systematically review the methodological quality of Chinese clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for diagnosis and management of diabetic foot.MethodsCNKI, WanFang Data, VIP, CBM, Yimaitong databases, website of Diabetes Branch of Chinese Medical Association, website of Chinese Integrative Medicine Association and website of Peripheral Vascular Disease Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Microcirculation were electronically searched to collect relevant CPGs from inception to May, 2020. Four researchers independently evaluated the CPGs methodological quality by using AGREEⅡ tool.ResultsA total of 10 Chinese CPGs for diabetes foot were included. The standardized mean scores for various fields were 75.74% for scope and purpose, 36.58% for stakeholder involvement, 28.61% for rigor of development, 86.30% for clarity and presentation, 43.47% for applicability, and 9.44% for editorial independence. ConclusionsThere are merely a small quantity of diabetic foot guidelines in China, and the methodological quality is insufficient. Therefore, more attention should be focused on the establishment of guidelines in the future, so as to further improve the quality of Chinese diabetic foot guidelines.
ObjectiveTo review guidelines on diet intervention for hypertension, compare the similarities/differences and the regularity of the guidelines, discuss the prevention and treatment effects of diet intervention for hypertension, promote the understanding of the guide, and to explore the best method of diet intervention for hypertension. MethodsDatabase such as CNKI, EMbase, PubMed, etc., as well as guideline websites were searched from inception to February 28th, 2014, for collecting guidelines on diet intervention in the prevention and treatment of hypertension. The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE Ⅱ) were applied to assess methodological quality of the guidelines. Characteristics of diets recommended by the guidelines were analyzed through comparing the different regions and quality levels of the guidelines. ResultsA total of 27 guidelines on diet intervention for hypertension were included. They were formulated by 5 continents, 9 countries, 2 regions (Taiwan of China and Europe), and 1 international organization (WHO). According to the AGREE Ⅱ instrument, 13 guidelines were graded as Level A (recommendation) and 14 were graded as Level B (recommended after changes), respectively. The domains were more than 60% except for "rigor of development" (57.89±7.71)% and "applicability" (58.39±6.29)%. Each guideline recommended low sodium diet (usually:5 to 6 g/d; Oceania:4 g/d; North America:the amount of sodium intake should be decreased as age increases). The amount of alcohol intake was generally 30 mL/d for men and 20 mL/d for women. All included guidelines recommended to increase the intake of fruits, vegetables, and potassium. ConclusionCurrently, more than half of diet intervention recommendations for hypertension in different countries and regions are still needs to be improved and modified. Diet recommendations differ in regions, gender, and age.
