  • Lipopolysaccharide——a Target for the Development of Novel Drugs Being Aimed at Gram-Negative Bacteria

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the important component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, contributes to the integrity of the outer membrane, and protects the cell against bactericidal agents. LPS, also called endotoxin synonymously, is well known as a potent inducer of the innate immune system that often causes septic shock in the intensive cares. Chemically, the amphiphilic LPS is made up of three parts, i.e. hydrophobic lipid A, hydrophilic core oligosaccharide chain, and hydrophilic O-antigenic polysaccharide side chain. Specially, the lipid A is known to be responsible for a variety of biological effects during Gram-negative sepsis. LPS can elicit a strong response from innate immune system and result in local or systemic adverse reactions. LPS can trigger massive inflammatory responses and may result in immunopathology, for which the molecular basis is mediated by the signal pathway of LPS. In recent years, a tremendous progress has been made in determining the associated proteins and receptors in the LPS signaling that leads to the disease. This review gives a summary of recent progresses of research on LPS and LPS receptors.

  • Research Progress of The Regulation of Energy Metabolism in Tumor Cells by MicroRNA

ObjectiveTo summarize the research progress of bioenergetic metabolic mechanisms regulated of tumor cells by microRNA in recent years. MethodsLiteratures about the recent studies on the bioenergetic metabolic mechanisms regulated of tumor cells by microRNA were reviewed according to the results searched from PUBMED. ResultsAerobic glycolysis(Warburg effect) is the most significant characteristics of bioenergetic metabolism in tumor cells. MicroRNAs can regulate many key progressions involved in tumor cells bioenergetic metabolism, such as uptake of glucose, glycolytic pathway, tricarboxylic acid cycle(TAC), and the relationship among lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism and TAC, resulting in accelerated uptake of glucose and glycolysis. Thus we believe that the transportation and metabolic procession are vital important for tumor cells and related to poor prognosis of patients. ConclusionsThe studies on relationship between microRNA and bioenergetic metabolism have come an important insight for malignant biological behavior of tumor cells based on abnormal bioenergetic metabolism and also become new and important supplementary means of diagnosis and treatment of cancer. As far as the research progress about tumor cells bioenergetic metabolism regulated by microRNA, one of the things must be revealed is that which metablic factors can directly change tumor biological behavior after tumor cells bioenergetic metabolism changed caused by microRNA.

  • Research Progress in Preparation of Antimicrobial Peptides and Their Mechanisms of Action

Currently, all the conventional antibiotics have developed corresponding drug-resistant pathogenic strains, which have increasingly become a serious threat to people's health. Development of completely new types of antibiotics is one of effective ways to solve the drug resistance issue. Antimicrobial peptides with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antimicrobial activity and wild variety become the ideal alternative to traditional antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides are derived from wide range of sources, such as plants, animals, and microorganisms. Mechanism of function of the antimicrobial peptides and the investigation approaches of different antimicrobial peptides also vary dramatically. In this paper, we give an overview of preparation, antibacterial mechanisms, and research methodology of antimicrobial peptides.

  • Clinical Analysis of Central Placenta Previa

ObjectiveTo explore the related factors for the influences and outcomes of mothers and infants, and further provide a basic reference for reducing maternal and prenatal mortality caused by central placenta previa, through the analysis of its clinical characteristics. MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 89 patients with central placenta previa treated from January to August 2012. ResultsThere were 89 patients with central placenta previa, and the average age of these patients was (29.6±11.4) years, and the average number of pregnancy among the patients was 3.17. Nine patients had scar uterus; 8 had pernicious placenta previa (9%); 34 had prenatal anemia symptoms; 44 had prenatal vaginal bleeding with the bleeding volume ranged from 2 to 500 mL; 40 were treated before delivery. The average gestational age was 36 weeks ±4.2 days, and 28 of them were readmitted. The intraoperative bleeding in such patients as had placenta located in the anterior wall, placenta adhesion or implantation, history of uterine cavity operation or multipara was more than other patients. The postpartum hemorrhage of patients with the gestational age of 36 weeks or more was more than that of patients with the gestational age shorter than 36 weeks. The incidence of fetal distress in patients with the gestational age of 36 weeks or more is lower and the neonatal 1-minute Apgar score was higher than that in patients with the gestational age shorter than 36 weeks (P<0.05). ConclusionThe treatment of central type of placenta previa should be more active to prolong the gestational week. Patients with placenta adhesion or implantation, caesarean, multipara and placenta in the anterior wall are susceptible to intraoperative bleeding during the termination of pregnancy. Termination of pregnancy in these patients with central placenta previa should be carried out by cesarean section when gestation is more than 36 weeks to reduce postpartum hemorrhage and complications.

  • Rapid Simulation of Electrode Surface Treatment Based on Monte-Carlo Model

Micro- and integrated biosensor provides a powerful means for cell electrophysiology research. The technology of electroplating platinum black on the electrode can uprate signal-to-noise ratio and sensitivity of the sensor. For quantifying analysis of the processing method of electroplating process, this paper proposes a grid search algorithm based on the Monte-Carlo model. The paper also puts forward the operational optimization strategy, which can rapidly implement the process of large-scale nanoparticles with different particle size of dispersion (20-200 nm) attaching to the electrode and shortening a simulation time from average 20 hours to 0.5 hour when the test number is 10 and electrode radius is 100 μm. When the nanoparticle was in a single layer or multiple layers, the treatment uniformity and attachment rate was analyzed by using the grid search algorithm with different sizes and shapes of electrode. Simulation results showed that under ideal conditions, when the electrode radius is less than 100 μm, with the electrode size increasing, it has an obvious effect for the effective attachment and the homogeneity of nanoparticle, which is advantageous to the quantitative evaluation of electrode array's repeatability. Under the condition of the same electrode area, the best attachment is on the circular electrode compared to the attachments on the square and rectangular ones.
