  • Person imagery in drawing tests in screening for mental disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis

ObjectiveTo integrate person imagery from drawing tests in screening for mental disorders through meta-analysis to identify indicators that can effectively predict mental disorders. MethodsA computerized search of CNKI, WanFang Data, VIP, PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCO databases was conducted to collect studies related to mental disorders and drawing tests, with a search timeframe of the period from the creation of the database to May 8, 2023. Meta-analysis was performed using CMA 3.0 after two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted information, and assessed the risk of bias. ResultsA total of 43 studies were included, with 791 independent effect sizes and 8 444 subjects. Meta-analysis revealed that a total of 29 person imagery traits significantly predicted mental disorders, which could be categorized into 7 types according to the features: absent, bizarre, blackened, simplified, static, detailed, and holistic. The subgroup analysis revealed that the specific indicators of affective disorders included "excessive separation among items", "oversimplified person", "rigid and static person" and "hands behind the back". The specific indicators of thought disorders were "absence of limbs", "absence of facial features" and "disproportionate body proportions". Moreover, there were seven common indicators of mental disorders, including "oversimplified drawing", "very small drawing", "very small person", "weak or intermittent lines", "single line limb", "absence of hands or feet" and "no expression or dullness''. ConclusionThe findings could provide a reference standard for selection and interpretation of drawing indicators, promote standardization of the drawing test, and enhance the accuracy of results in screening for mental disorders.

  • An electroencephalogram-based study of resting-state spectrogram and attention in tinnitus patients

The incidence of tinnitus is very high, which can affect the patient’s attention, emotion and sleep, and even cause serious psychological distress and suicidal tendency. Currently, there is no uniform and objective method for tinnitus detection and therapy, and the mechanism of tinnitus is still unclear. In this study, we first collected the resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) data of tinnitus patients and healthy subjects. Then the power spectrum topology diagrams were compared of in the band of δ (0.5–3 Hz), θ (4–7 Hz), α (8–13 Hz), β (14–30 Hz) and γ (31–50 Hz) to explore the central mechanism of tinnitus. A total of 16 tinnitus patients and 16 healthy subjects were recruited to participate in the experiment. The results of resting state EEG experiments found that the spectrum power value of tinnitus patients was higher than that of healthy subjects in all concerned frequency bands. The t-test results showed that the significant difference areas were mainly concentrated in the right temporal lobe of the θ and α band, and the temporal lobe, parietal lobe and forehead area of the β and γ band. In addition, we designed an attention-related task experiment to further study the relationship between tinnitus and attention. The results showed that the classification accuracy of tinnitus patients was significantly lower than that of healthy subjects, and the highest classification accuracies were 80.21% and 88.75%, respectively. The experimental results indicate that tinnitus may cause the decrease of patients’ attention.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xueshuantong combined with conventional western medicine for angina pectoris in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. MethodsWe searched the Cochrane Library (2013.12), Medline (2013.10), EMbase (unlimited-2013.10), China Nation Knowledge Infrastructure (unlimited-2013.10) and the Wanfang Database (unlimitied-2013.10), Weipu Database (unlimited-2013.10), and CBM (unlimited-2013.10) on computers for parallel group randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing Xueshuantong and placebo for patients with angina pectoris. Three researchers selected the trials based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and then extracted the data, assessed the quality of each trial independently. After cross checking, the Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.1 software was used to perform Meta-analysis. ResultsThirteen RCTs and a total of 1 298 participants were involved. Meta-analysis showed that Xueshuantong combined with the conventional western medicine had better curative effect on angina pectoris for CHD than conventional therapy; stable angina pectoris [RR=1.24, 95%CI (1.12, 1.37), P<0.000 1]; unstable angina pectoris [RR=1.22, 95%CI (1.15, 1.29), P<0.000 01]. There was also significant difference in total curative effect between the two groups [RR=1.22, 95%CI (1.16, 1.29), P<0.000 01]. Xueshuantong also had better curative effect on improving performance of electrocardiogtram (ECG): stable angina pectoris [RR=1.30, 95%CI (1.11, 1.51), P=0.000 8]; unstable angina pectoris [RR=1.18, 95%CI (1.10, 1.28), P<0.000 1]. There was also significant difference in total curative effect on improving performance of ECG between the two groups [RR=1.21, 95%CI (1.13, 1.29), P<0.000 01]. But there was no significant difference in adverse effects rate between the two groups [RR=4.50, 95%CI (0.99, 20.53), P=0.05]. ConclusionCompared with conventional therapy, Xueshuantong combined with conventional western medicine has better curative effect with improved performance of ECG. The adverse effect rate between the two groups is not significantly different. But because of the small scale, inferior quality, and bias risk of these trials, large-scale, rational designed, multicenter RCTs are needed to confirm our conclusions.

  • Efficacy and Safety of Early Oxygen Therapy for Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Meta-analysis

ObjectiveTo systematically review the efficacy and safety of early oxygen therapy for patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). MethodsWe searched databases including PubMed, EMbase, The Cochrane Library (Issue 11, 2015) and CBM from inception to October 2015, to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about early oxygen therapy for patients with AMI. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies. Then, meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.3 software. ResultsA total of 7 RCTs involving 1 388 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that, there were no significant differences between the oxygen therapy group and the control group in mortality (OR=1.12, 95%CI 0.57 to 2.20, P=0.75), the incidence of major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) (OR=1.00, 95%CI 0.46 to 2.18, P=1.00), the incidence of arrhythmia (OR=1.01, 95%CI 0.45 to 2.24, P=0.98) and the incidence of cardiac death (OR=0.53, 95%CI 0.17 to 1.67, P=0.28). But, the oxygen therapy group had higher risk of recurrent myocardial infarction (OR=5.50, 95%CI 1.44 to 20.99, P=0.01) and longer average hospital length of stay (MD=1.28, 95%CI 1.10 to 1.47, P<0.0001). ConclusionThe efficacy of early oxygen therapy for patients with AMI is not clear, even may increase the risk of recurrent myocardial infarction and the average hospital length of stay. • Expressed analysis and functional studies of differential expressed lncRNA genes associated with cholesterol gallstone

ObjectiveTo explore the differential expressed lncRNA genes associated with formation of cholesterol gallstone, and analyze the biological functions of differential expressed lncRNA through bioinformatics.MethodsA total of 24 C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal control group (n=8) and lithogenic group (n=16), which were treated with chow diets and lithogenic diets respectively for 5 weeks. After 5 weeks, mice of the lithogenic group were randomly divided into model control group (n=8) and ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group (n=8). Afterwards, mice of the normal control group were still fed with chow diets, mice of the model control group were fed with lithogenic diets, mice of the ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group were fed with ursodeoxycholic acid. After 2 weeks, collected liver tissues and gallbladder bile from the three groups, and observed gallbladder gross sample and analyzed lipids component of gallbladder bile, meanwhile detected the differential expressed lncRNA and analyzed the biological functions of differential expressed lncRNA through bioinformatics, including Gene ontology (GO) and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis.ResultsWe successfully constructed the mice model of cholesterol gallstone. Total cholesterol level of gallbladder in the model control group had significantly higher than those of the normal control group and ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group (P<0.05), yet there was no significant difference between the normal control group and ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group (P=0.59). The levels of total bile acid, total bilirubin, and direct bilirubin had no significant difference among the three groups (P>0.05). There were 49 kinds of common overlapped difference lncRNA between the ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group and the model control group through differential expression analysis of lncRNA in liver tissues of the mice in three groups. GO and KEGG path analysis were performed separately by differential expressed lncRNA, and 88 kinds of GO terms and 18 kinds of pathways were significantly enriched from the model control group and the normal control group, 205 kinds of GO terms and 20 kinds of pathways were significantly enriched from the ursodeoxycholic acid treatment group and the normal control group.ConclusionsUrsodeoxycholic acid has therapeutic effect for cholesterol gallstone. Differential expressed lncRNAs play an important regulatory role in the formation of cholesterol gallstone and the prevention of gallstone formation by ursodeoxycholic acid treatment, which further lay the foundation in discussing specific mechanism regulated by lncRNA.
