It has always been an important policy of the Chinese government to provide aid and assistance for the development of Tibet. With nearly one-eighth of China’s total land areas and about 0.002% of China’s total population, the Tibet Autonomous Region lags behind the domestic average level in medical education and is in bad need for medical professionals. The West China Center of Medical Sciences (WCCMS) of Sichuan University has managed to introduce US projects to set up the West China–Tibet Telemedical Education System to transmit medical courses in a real-time and interactive way. Based on this system, WCCMS has established a model for assisting the Tibet University Medical College through transmitting medical courses, training their medical faculty, sending WCCMS faculty to work in Tibet and admitting medical teachers and students from Tibet to study and be trained at West China Medical School and Hospital.

ObjectiveVideo electroencephalography (VEEG) monitoring for health education of elderly patients based on a process-based communication model, and explore the impact of this model on the success rate, negative emotions, nursing satisfaction, and active cooperation rate of such patients.MethodsFrom September 2017 to September 2019, 118 patients with suspected epilepsy, encephalitis and other diseases who required VEEG monitoring in Suining Central Hospital were selected for this study (patients aged 61 to 73 years; 54 males and 64 females). Patients were divided into 2 groups using a random number table method, 59 patients in each group.A group received routine nursing, and B group received health education based on the process communication model. The monitoring success rate, negative emotion, active cooperation rate, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe total effective rate in the B group was 86.44%, which was significantly higher than 76.27% in the A group (P<0.05). After nursing intervention, the scores of anxiety and depression in the two groups were significantly decreased, but the decline was greater in the B group (P<0.05). The active cooperation rate and nursing satisfaction of the B group were significantly higher than those of the A group (P<0.05).ConclusionCompared with conventional nursing, health education based on process communication mode can significantly improve the success rate of VEEG monitoring in elderly patients, alleviate the negative emotions of patients, improve the active cooperation rate and nursing satisfaction.
Objective To investigate the application effect of remote Teach-back method on the precise management of elderly patients with osteoporosis (OP). Methods From June to September 2016, the elderly outpatients with OP were selected and randomly divided into the conventional treatment group and the remote Teach-back comprehensive treatment group. The remote Teach-back comprehensive treatment group was given the mobile Internet (WeChat) on the basis of conventional treatment to guide patients with remote OP treatment. The OP knowledge, OP self-efficacy, activities of daily living (ADL), bone mineral density (BMD) and other indicators were compared between the two groups after 12 months of treatment. Results A total of 80 elderly patients with OP were included, with 40 patients in each group. The comparison of the improvement values of the two groups showed that the remote Teach-back comprehensive treatment group was superior to the conventional treatment group in terms of exercise knowledge, calcium knowledge, exercise performance, ADL and BMD (P<0.05). Among them, the improvement in exercise knowledge intervention in the remote Teach-back group and the conventional treatment group were 1.870 (1.098, 2.870) and 0.670 (0.043, 1.283); the improvement values of calcium knowledge intervention in the two groups were 2.495 (1.860, 3.455) and 0.250 (–0.810, 0.705); the improvement values after exercise intervention in the two groups were 15.015 (10.490, 26.175) and 6.045 (1.405, 13.545); the improvement of ADL in the two groups were 13.565 (4.053, 23.768) and 2.245 (–4.953, 7.872); the improvement of lumbar 1-waist 4 BMD in the two groups were 0.155 (0.010, 0.313) g/cm2 and 0.045 (–0.095, 0.160) g/cm2; the hip BMD improvement values of the two groups were 0.130 (–0.023, 0.245) g/cm2 and 0.035 (–0.043, 0.165) g/cm2. There was no significant difference in OP knowledge between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions Remote Teach-back online education makes OP management more effective. Relying on the characteristics of rehabilitation education and rehabilitation training, we will establish an advantageous management model to prevent the occurrence of OP and fragility fractures and improve the quality of life.
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of diabetic patient education on glycemic control for diabeties. Methods Fifty cases of type 2 diabetic patients with educational interventions from the Diabetic Educational Center of West China Hospital and 50 type 2 diabetic patients without educational intervention were selected randomly. All the patients completed the same questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0. Results The age of patients in educational group was older and the duration of sickness was longer than those in the control group, but their blood glucoses were better controlled. Conclusions Diabetic patient education is important to improve their glycemic control and decrease the risks and deterioration of diabetic chronic complications.
Clinical practice is very important in clinical pharmacology education. However, there are some deficiencies in this field in China. Clinical trial institutions in China are medical institutions that are qualified to undertake drug clinical trials. There are hardware and software for clinical pharmacology practice, and high-quality teaching personnel with medical, teaching, and scientific research backgrounds in the clinical trial institutions, which can be used as clinical pharmacology teaching practice bases. Therefore, this article discusses the practice of clinical pharmacology teaching reform using clinical trial institutions as a practical platform, and aims to put forward teaching reform ideas that combining students’ clinical pharmacology research practice on the basis of theoretical teaching.
ObjectiveTo explore the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) during the internship process for undergraduates in general medical colleges and universities. MethodsFrom September 2011 to September 2012, PBL mode teaching was carried for the five-year undergraduates, in which students were encouraged to explore, innovate, and put forward questions by themselves, and teachers were responsible for guiding. Based on entrance theoretical examination results and the comprehensive evaluation results, the grade 2008 undergraduate interns who received "3+2" two-phase teaching were divided into experimental group and control group with 50 students in each. Students in the experimental group were given the PBL teaching method, while the control group continued to receive traditional teaching mode. Finally, we adopted questionnaire survey, theory exam, and skill evaluation to compare the two groups of students. ResultsFor the questionnaire survey, students in the experimental group got significantly higher marks in such items as "mutual assessment between teachers and students" and "skill operation knowledge mastery" than the control group (P<0.05), but in items like "medical ethics" and "social cultivation", the differences were not significant (P>0.05). For the theory exam results, the average score for students in the experimental group (84.98±9.78) was not significantly different from that in the control group (81.86±10.04) (P>0.05). For the skill operation, the average score for the experimental group was 8.87±0.89, which was significantly higher than that for the control group (6.80±1.46) (P<0.05). ConclusionPBL mode is worth popularizing for its function of improving students' practical operation ability and thinking ability. However, the improvement of theoretical knowledge learning needs to be further solved.
Objective To systematically review the effectiveness of empowerment education in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods Databases including The Cochrane Library (Issue 12, 2012), PubMed, Ovid, EMbase, Web of Science, CNKI, WanFang Data, VIP, CBM, digital journals of the Chinese Medical Association and Google Scholar were electronically searched for the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on empowerment education in patients with type 2 diabetes from inception to January 2013. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed methodological quality. Then, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.2 software. Results A total of seven RCTs involving 749 Type 2 diabetic patients were finally included. The results of meta-analysis showed that, compared with the control group, the empowerment education group was better in decreasing HbA1c levels, with a significant difference (MD= –0.27, 95%CI –0.51 to –0.03, P=0.03), but no significant difference was found between the two groups in improving body mass index (BMI) (MD= 0.25, 95%CI –1.07 to 1.57, P=0.71). Conclusion The program of empowerment education could improve HbA1c levels of diabetic patients, patients’ knowledge and illness attitudes on diabetes mellitus, but its influence on patients’ BMI, LDL and self-efficacy is still unclear.
Non-directly affiliated hospitals are an important supplement to directly affiliated hospitals of medical colleges in China. Considering the problems of teaching consciousness, school running form and teachers construction in non-directly affiliated hospitals, this paper takes the medical personnel training of a non-directly affiliated hospital which is subordinate to Shenzhen Luohu Hospital Group as an example, in order to analyze the related exploration methods of non-directly affiliated hospitals under the development of hospital collectivization, and put forward a trinity training mode of general practitioners, which is “medical college-non-directly affiliated hospital-community health center”. This paper further discusses the challenges and possible solutions faced by non-directly affiliated hospitals in the new era.
Objective To learn about the evaluation of the practical value of resident doctors towards the Global Minimum Essential Requirements in Medical Education (GMER), so as to provide effective information for the usage of GMER in China. Methods Two hundred and five resident doctors of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were investigated by the use of questionnaires. Results The evaluation of the practical value towards the 7 domains of GMER was high, but the “population health and health systems” domain gains the lowest scores. Conclusion The society might ask doctors to use the abilities required by GMER, especially the requirements in the "population health and health systems" domain. It is suggested that the doctors’ performance evaluation system be adjusted by adding the weight to the lower score domains, and the medical students be trained to be equipped with both macro and micro thinking abilities in medical school, so as to cultivate doctors with the "core competence" of GMER.
