bjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and limits of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in tumor treatment. MethodsThe references about the application of HIFU in tumor treatment in recent years were reviewed.ResultsHIFU caused localized hyperthermia at predictable depth in a few seconds to make the tumor tissue coagulative necrosis without injuring surrounding tissue. HIFU treatment had the advantages of low morbidity, noninvasiveness, avoidance of systemic side effects, and repeatitiveness. However, the utilization of HIFU sometimes could be limited by some factors such as imaging technique, organ movement, incomplete tissue destruction, etc.ConclusionHIFU is a promising noninvasive therapy for tumor treatment, though there are lots of problems to be further studied.
The comparative study of local application of magnetic piece dressings of different intensities (Gs) on the effect of survival of 48 skin flaps (2×5cm in size) and the healing of the incisional wornds was reported. Twelve Japanese long ear white rabbits were used for this study. It was noted that the magnetic field intensity of 200or 400 Gs showed remarkable increase of the area of survival of the skin flaps and enhancement of the healing of the incisional wounds.
【Abstract】ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on the immunity of patients with advanced primary liver cancer (PLC). MethodsForty cases of PLC admitted to our institution from Mar. 2003 to Dec. 2003 were included in this study. Patients were divided into 2 groups and received either HIFU or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment randomly. CD3, CD4, CD8, CD4/CD8, NK, IL-2, TNF were chosen to assess the immune status before and after treatment. The results were compared statistically. ResultsThe survival rate after HIFU was 80.0%, 61.1%, 42.9%, 33.3% at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year respectively, which was similar to that after RFA treatment. The changes of immunity parameters of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD4/CD8, NK, IL-2 and TNF were not significant after HIFU treatment. In addition, the differences of those parameters between HIFU group and RFA group were insignificant. ConclusionThere are no detrimental effects on immunity in the early period after HIFU treatment.
ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of alcohol consumption status and labor intensity on the tolerance of patients undergoing bronchoscopy under mild to moderate sedation anesthesia. MethodsAdult patients scheduled for bronchoscopy under local anesthesia or mild to moderate sedation were included, and their clinical characteristics and bronchoscopy tolerance were recorded. The study compared changes in vital signs, severity of coughing, and procedure failure rates during bronchoscopy among patients with different drinking statuses (non-drinkers, former drinkers, and current drinkers) and different labor intensities (light, moderate, and heavy labor intensity) to assess the impact of drinking status and labor intensity on bronchoscopy tolerance.ResultsA total of 142 subjects were included in the study, with 50 patients receiving local anesthesia and 92 patients receiving mild to moderate sedation. Current drinkers had a higher procedure failure rate (2.9% vs. 1.9% vs. 25.0%, P<0.01, for non-drinkers, former drinkers, and current drinkers, respectively) and more significant intraoperative blood pressure drops (systolic pressure change, −3.5±9.1 vs. −0.2±8.1 vs. −9.3±17.9 mm Hg, P<0.01; diastolic pressure change, −0.5±5.6 vs. 2.9±7.9 vs. −3.2±12.4, P<0.05). Patients with moderate to heavy labor intensity also had higher procedure failure rates and more pronounced intraoperative blood pressure drops (procedure failure rate, 1.1% vs. 13.2% vs. 22.2%, P<0.01, for light, moderate, and heavy labor intensity, respectively; intraoperative systolic pressure change, −1.8±8.5 vs. 2.8±8.5 vs. −17.2±24.7 mm Hg, P<0.001; intraoperative diastolic pressure change, 1.3±6.4 vs. 0.2±6.7 vs. −8.1±17.2 mm Hg, P<0.01). The impact of drinking status and labor intensity on procedure tolerance was only observed in patients receiving mild to moderate sedation. After controlling for relevant confounding factors, current drinking and moderate to heavy labor intensity were identified as independent risk factors for procedure failure (current drinkers compared to non-drinkers or former drinkers, OR 47.2, 95%CI: 3.1-232.2, P<0.05; moderate to heavy labor intensity compared to low labor intensity, OR 25.7, 95%CI: 2.8-67.7, P<0.05).ConclusionsCurrent drinkers engaged in moderate to heavy labor intensity are less likely to tolerate bronchoscopy under mild to moderate sedation. It is essential to pay attention to the selection and evaluation of anesthesia methods, procedure types, and intraoperative monitoring for this population.
ObjectiveTo systematically review the intervention effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on weight loss and blood lipid metabolism in overweight/obese populations. MethodsThe computer conducted searches in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, and WanFang Data database to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to HIIT and weight loss, fat reduction, and blood lipid metabolism in overweight/obese populations. The search was conducted from the inception of the databases to March 31, 2023. Two researchers independently conducted literature screening and data extraction. After evaluating the risk of bias of the included studies, a meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software. ResultsA total of 19 RCTs, involving 595 overweight/obese participants, were included. The meta-analysis results showed that compared wtih the control group, HIIT interventions effectively reduced body weight (MD=−2.63, 95%CI −4.04 to −1.23, P<0.05), BMI (MD=−1.21, 95%CI −1.95 to −0.48, P<0.05), Fat% (MD=−1.66, 95%CI −2.28 to −1.04, P<0.05), TG (MD=−0.13, 95%CI −0.25 to −0.01, P=0.04), HDL (MD=0.14, 95%CI 0.05 to 0.23, P<0.05), and LDL (MD=−0.26, 95%CI −0.39 to −0.13, P<0.05) levels but did not improve TC (MD=−0.15, 95%CI −0.36 to 0.06, P=0.15) levels. ConclusionHIIT intervention can effectively improve body weight, BMI, Fat%, TG, HDL, and LDL levels in overweight/obese populations, particularly showing a more pronounced improvement in lipid profiles among overweight/obese adolescents, but it does not reduce TC levels. This study demonstrates that HIIT may be an effective strategy to assist in weight loss and prevent cardiovascular diseases in overweight/obese populations, with potential for broader application.
The temperature during the brain tumor therapy using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) should be controlled strictly. This research aimed at realizing uniform temperature distribution in the focal region by adjusting driving signals of phased array transducer. The three-dimensional simulation model imitating craniotomy HIFU brain tumor treatment was established based on an 82-element transducer and the computed tomography (CT) data of a volunteer's head was used to calculate and modulate the temperature distributions using the finite difference in time domain (FDTD) method. Two signals which focus at two preset targets with a certain distance were superimposed to emit each transducer element. Then the temperature distribution was modulated by changing the triggering time delay and amplitudes of the two signals. The results showed that when the distance between the two targets was within a certain range, a focal region with uniform temperature distribution could be created. And also the volume of focal region formed by one irradiation could be adjusted. The simulation results would provide theoretical method and reference for HIFU applying in clinical brain tumor treatment safely and effectively.
With the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, the development of cardiac rehabilitation is an inevitable trend. Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive and long-term plan including medical assessment, exercise prescription, correction of cardiovascular risk factors, education, counseling, and behavioral intervention. Evidence-based medical evidence confirms that cardiac rehabilitation plays an important role in the three level prevention of cardiovascular disease. In this paper, we searched the literature in recent 10 years to explain the current situation and future research direction of cardiac rehabilitation, and explore the best mode of cardiac rehabilitation.
Objective To systematically review the effectiveness and safety of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for myoma of uterus fibroid. Methods Such databases as PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library (Issue 10, 2012), CBM, CNKI, and WanFang Data were electronically searched from inception to November 2012 for randomized controlled trials on HIFU for myoma of uterus fibroid. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed the methodological quality of the included studies. Then, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.0 software, and the quality levels of evidence were graded using GRADEpro 3.2 software. Results A total of 6 trials were included, involving 643 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that, HIFU was similar to surgery in complete and partial fibroid ablation, with no significant difference; HIFU and radiofrequency were different in complete and partial fibroid ablation, with significant differences; and HIFU was superior to mifepristone in complete fibroid ablation, with a significant difference. Conclusion HIFU is an alternative, non-invasive, safe and effective treatment for myoma of uterus fibroid.
The dose data produced by treatment plan system (TPS) in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has many gradient edge points. Considering this feature we proposed a new interpolation algorithm called treatment plan dose interpolation algorithm based on gradient feature in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (TDAGI), which improves the Canny algorithm to detect the gradient edge points and non-edge points by using the gradient information in the dose data plane. For each gradient edge point, the corresponding gradient profile was traced and the profile's sharpness was calculated, and for each non-edge point, the dispersion was calculated. With the sharpness or dispersion, the kernel coefficients of bi-cubic interpolation can be obtained and can be used as the central point to complete the bi-cubic interpolation calculation. Compared with bi-cubic interpolation and bilinear interpolation, the TDAGI algorithm is more accurate. Furthermore, the TDAGI algorithm has the advantage of gradient keeping. Therefore, TDAGI can be used as an alternative method in the dose interpolation of TPS in IMRT.
Focused low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (FLIPUS), as a non-invasive physical therapy, is widely used in orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology, rehabilitation medicine and other clinical specialties. More and more studies have found that FLIPUS can treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by promoting tissue regeneration, relieving pain and inhibiting inflammation, improve the common clinical symptoms of KOA, such as joint pain or stiffness, limited joint activity and decreased walking function, and improve the quality of life of patients to a certain extent. This article mainly reviews the effect and biophysical mechanism of FLIPUS in the treatment of KOA, as well as related clinical research, in order to provide a reference for clinical workers who carry out research in this field.
