  • Relationship Between Characteristic of Expression of Facilitative Glucose Transporter-1 in Bronchial Aveolar Carcinoma and Fluorine-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose Uptake

Objective To investigate the characteristic of the expression of facilitative glucose transporter 1 (Glut1) in bronchial aveolar carcinoma (BAC) and the relationship between expression of Glutl and fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) uptake. Methods Twenty patients with BAC were imaged with 18F-FDG positron emission tomography (PET) before surgery. Maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) and mean standard uptake value (SUVmean ) of tumor and standard uptake value of normal lung (SUVIung) were measured. The expression of Glutl was studied in paraffin sections by streptavidin peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemistry. Results All tumors of the patients could be detected by ^18F-FDG-PET. 18F-FDG uptake of tumor was higher than that of normal lung (SUV SUV and SUVlong were 3.09± 1.35, 2.37±1.03 and 0.39±0.09 respectively). The expression of Glutl were positive in all tumors (73. 8%± 14. 8% of positive cell rate, 2. 8 ± 0. 9 grade of staining intensity). Predominantly cytoplasm positive with weak staining intensity were observed in many tumors. Glutl negtive were observed in normal bronchial and lung parenchyma. Positive correlations were found among 18F-FDG uptake, Glut1 expression and tumor size (P〈0. 01). Conclusion Glutl expression with peculiarity in BAC is correlate with 18F-FDG uptake.

  • The objective evaluation of the postoperative changes of anatomical structures in macular diseases

Objective To evaluate different methods in determ ining the postoperative changes of anatomical structures in macular diseases. Methods Thirty-one eyes of 31 cases of macular diseases, were studied among them there were 15 eyes with idiopathic macular hole (IMH),and the others included 8 eyes with macular epiretinal membranes(ERMs), 4 eyes with age relate d macular degeneration(AMD) and 4 eyes with idiopathic submacular neovasculariza tions(SRNV). All cases were examined with retinoscope or retinogra phy, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT ) pre-and postoperatively. Results Funduscopy showed that all of the 15 IMHs were closed after operation, but OCT showed th at among them 2 affected eyes still had partial retinal detachment at the macular hole edge in one quadrant and the sensory layer in macular area became thinner in 1 affected eye. FFA revealed damage of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in 5 cases. As for the ERMs and SRNV, funduscopy could n ot identify wether they were completely removed or not after operation. FFA ind icated that SRNV and SRNV were completely removed and the damage of RPE.OCT discovere d that the ERMs and SRNV were completely removed and the sensory layer became th inner in 3 eyes. Conclusion The combination of funduscopy , FFA and OCT can get the whole view of macular diseases and their postopera tive anatomical evaluation. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2001,17:33-36)

  • The significance of serum sRAGE combined with lung function and lung HRCT in predicting risk of COPD with NSCLC

Objective To observe the value of serum soluble receptor of advanced glycation endproducts (sRAGE) combined with lung function and high resolution lung CT (HRCT) in predicting the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) developing non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods From January 2019 to June 2021, 140 patients with COPD combined with NSCLC, 137 patients with COPD, and 133 patients with NSCLC were enrolled in the study from the People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. General data, clinical symptoms, pulmonary function indexes and HRCT emphysema indexes (EI) were collected. Serum sRAGE levels of these patients were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Clinical characteristics of patients with COPD complicated with NSCLC were analyzed. Serum sRAGE, lung function and lung HRCT were combined to evaluate the correlation between the degree of emphysema and the occurrence of NSCLC in COPD, and receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed for diagnostic efficiency. Results Compared with NSCLC group, COPD combined with NSCLC group had higher proportion of male patients, higher proportion of elderly patients, higher smoking index, and higher proportion of squamous cell carcinoma (P<0.05). FEV1 and FEV1%pred in COPD combined with NSCLC group were significantly lower than those in COPD group and NSCLC group. The Goddard score and EI values of emphysema were significantly increased (P<0.05). Serum sRAGE was significantly lower than that of COPD group and NSCLC group (P<0.05). Serum sRAGE level was positively correlated with FEV1%pred (r=0.366, P<0.001) and FEV1/FVC (r=0.419, P<0.001), and negatively correlated with Goddard score (r=–0.710, P=0.001) and EI value (r=–0.515, P<0.001). Binary multi-factor logistic regression analysis showed that age, smoking index, EI, Goddard score, RV/TLC were positively correlated with the risk of COPD developing NSCLC, while FEV1%pred, FVC, FEV1/FVC and serum sRAGE were negatively correlated with the risk of COPD developing NSCLC. ROC curve results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of single diagnosis of sRAGE was 0.990, and the optimal cut-off value of 391.98 pg/mL with sensitivity of 93.3% and specificity of 89.7%. The AUC of sRAGE combined with age, smoking index, EI, Goddard score, FEV1%pred, FVC, FEV1/FVC, RV/TLC was 1.000 with sensitivity of 96.7%, specificity of 96.6%, and Yoden index of 0.933. Conclusion The combination of serum sRAGE, lung function and HRCT emphysema score can improve prediction of NSCLC occurrence in COPD.

  • Influence of Combinative Assessment of 64 Multi-Slice Spiral CT and Serum Amyloid A Protein onOperative Procedures’ Prediction of Lower Rectal Cancer

Objective To determine the influence of combinative assessment of 64 multi-slice spiral computer tomography (MSCT) and serum amyloid A protein (SAA ) on the selection of operative procedures in lower rectal cancer.MethodsProspectively enrolled 130 patients diagnosed definitely as lower rectal cancer (distance of tumor to the dentate line ≤7 cm) at West China Hospital of Sichuan University from July 2007 to September 2008 were randomly assigned into two groups with 65 participants, respectively. In one group named MSCT+SAAgroup, both 64 MSCT and SAA combinative assessment were made for the preoperative evaluation. In another group named MSCT group, only the preoperative MSCT was made. Furthermore, the preoperative staging and predicted operation procedures were compared with postoperative pathologic staging and practical operation program, respectively.ResultsAccording to the criteria, 119 patients with colorectal cancer were actually included into MSCT+SAA group (n=58) and MSCT group (n=61). The baselines characteristics of two groups were basically identical. For MSCT+SAAgroup, the accuracies of preoperative staging T, N, M and TNM were 89.66%, 79.31%, 100% and 77.59%, respectively; For MSCT group, the corresponding rates were 86.89%, 70.49%, 100% and 65.57%, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference of the accuracy of prediction to operative procedures in two groups (93.10% vs. 80.33%, P=0.041). The clinical staging (P=0.001), preoperative T staging (P=0.000), M staging (P=0.016), TNM staging (P=0.013) and serum level of SAA (P=0.029) were related to the selection of operative procedures when analyzing the relationship between the operative procedures and multiple clinicopathologic factors in lower rectal cancer. ConclusionCombinative assessment of 64 MSCT and SAA could improve the accuracy of preoperative staging, thus provide higher predictive coincidence rate to operative procedures for surgeon.

  • Manifestations of acute mesenteric ischemia on multidetector computed tomography

ObjectiveTo summarize the manifestations of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) on multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and the diagnostic value of MDCT in the prognosis of AMI. MethodRecent studies on pathophysiology, CT features, and prognosis of AMI were retrieved and reviewed. ResultsVascular insufficiency of AMI could occur as a result of mesenteric arterial embolism, arterial thrombosis, venous thrombosis, or nonocclusive. Two stages of AMI, early and late, were associated with distinct prognosis. In early ischemia, the lesions were reversible. The late AMI was characterized by the development of irreversible transmural necrosis. A delayed diagnosis leaded to considerable mortality. MDCT findings in AMI could be divided into imaging findings related to vascular insufficiency and ischemic intestinal injury. Pneumoperitoneum could be considered a sign of transmural necrosis in the AMI. While, other imaging features predicting transmural necrosis were controversial because of the heterogeneity of diagnostic tests. ConclusionsAMI is a life-threatening abdominal emergency. Early diagnosis can improve the prognosis of patient. It is important for radiologists to identify prognostic features for differentiating early from late forms of AMI.
